TenCate Geotube® for cleaning up of Werdenbergersee

TenCate Geotube® was used last summer during the cleaning up of the Werdenbergersee (Switzerland). The use of this technology enabled 16 million litres of sludge to be dewatered and removed in less than two months: a cost-effective, successful and environment-friendly solution.

The Werdenbergersee, located between Werdenberg and the small neighbouring town of Buchs had become silted up and in some places the lake had dried up. It therefore needed to be dredged. It was decided to use a cost-effective, more environment-friendly and faster solution: dewatering the dredged sludge using TenCate Geotube®.

TenCate Geotube® is a technology developed by TenCate for dewatering (filtration) and bank protection. 16,000 m³ of sludge was dewatered and removed in less than eight weeks. After the dewatering process 10,000 tons of dry matter will be recycled as valuable compost.
