Autumn 2011

Conference regarding protection of soldiers

TenCate Advanced Armour and TenCate Protective Fabrics were the initiators of an international conference with the theme Protecting the soldier in modern conflict, which was held in London on 23 and 24 May 2011. The aim of this high-level event was to demonstrate how TenCate translates its commitment to protecting soldiers into protection solutions.

Jaap de Hoop Scheffer (former Scretary-General of NAVO and member of the International Advisory Board) chaired the conference.

TenCate Protective Fabrics and TenCate Advanced Armour develop and produce functional materials to provide safety and optimum protection to people and material. In a period of remarkable unpredictability, when both the nature and the level of threats are constantly changing, there is continuous investment in product development. TenCate Protective Fabrics and TenCate Advanced Armour are working together on this with fibre producers, the suppliers of chemicals and knowledge and test institutes. There is also frequent contact with governments, garment makers and end-users (the military). Defence is both the customer and the end-user of protective equipment. The cooperation of the military with the defence industry and knowledge institutes is of vital importance in order to be able to conduct targeted research and development into protection solutions. Judging by the position TenCate occupies in the markets, it is apparent that this approach pays.
