The hundredth Cruyff Court in the Netherlands will be officially opened in Venlo today, Tuesday, 6 October. This multisports pitch based on synthetic turf from TenCate is dedicated to Jeu Sprengers, the former chairman of the KNVB (the Royal Dutch Football Association) and a former UEFA committee member, as well as the former chairman of VVV Venlo. He was one of the driving forces behind the KNVB’s initiative to support the Cruyff Courts.
The first Cruyff Court was completed in Lelystad in 2003. As a partner since the very beginning, TenCate supports the objectives of the Johan Cruyff Foundation to promote sporting and social integration by means of Cruyff Courts. TenCate developed the durable TenCate Tapeslide® XP fibre specially for pitches that undergo intensive use like the Cruyff Courts – which are provided by the Johan Cruyff Foundation.
Cruyff Courts provide children from the local neighbourhood with a sustainable and safe place to play sports on synthetic turf. This will ensure that a new generation will become familiar with playing on synthetic turf.
