Protective clothing for voestalpine Stahl GmbH
TenCate Protective Fabrics produces and supplies inherently flame-resistant fabrics for the workwear of employees at voestalpine Stahl GmbH in Linz (Austria). Targeted end-user marketing, quality and reliable delivery are fundamental to the relationship between supplier and customer. Fabrics from the TenCate Tecasafe® collection form the basis of the articles of clothing.
As a safety expert, Gernot Irresberger is responsible at voestalpine Stahl GmbH for purchasing personal safety resources. ‘Multi-risk protection is important here,’ he explains, referring to the different parts of the firm. ‘For example, clothing must not only be heat-, flame- and chemical-resistant, but also provide protection against metal spatters. As they serve various workplaces, the changing rooms are some distance away from each other, so we need clothing that you don’t have to be constantly changing.’
After the practical tests, subsequent wearer trial by 50 employees and a few adaptations (because of new standards) the choice of fabrics from the TenCate Tecasafe® collection became a fact. The first departments were then provided with the new clothing – for example, all employees in training are already equipped with the new protective clothing.
Around 1,700 employees of voestalpine Stahl GmbH are now kitted out for work in clothing based on TenCate Tecasafe® fabric.

A tender involves considerable time. From problem analysis and specification writing to delivery of the clothing generally takes several years. It’s a route that brings parties close together. ‘TenCate has given us good guidance right from the start,’ acknowledges Gernot Irresberger. ‘We have worked as a team, and that produces the quickest and best results – for the laundry and the clothing manufacturer too. There are no longer any surprises.’
