TenCate geotextiles awarded again
During the IFAI Expo Americas in Baltimore (Maryland, USA) in October, TenCate Geosynthetics USA was presented with two IFAI Awards by the Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI).
TenCate Mirafi® H2Ri, a new geotextile for the foundation and stabilization of motorways, carried off this year’s Innovation Award. A project in China with a retaining wall based on TenCate Mirafi® PET fabric received the Award of Excellence. Over the past seven years TenCate Geosynthetics has been the recipient of the Innovation Award no less than six times.
Construction of the retaining wall near Hetaoyu
The China Huaneng Group is the largest energy producer in China. At present Huaneng is building a coal-processing plant in Hetaoyu, situated near the town of Qingyang in the province of Gansu. A platform 1 kilometre long and 140 metres wide has been created to site the plant.
The retaining wall itself is 1 kilometre long and averages 30 metres in height (35 metres at its highest point). The plant is situated on a loess plateau covering 640,000 m2.
A retaining wall reinforced with TenCate Mirafi® PET geotextile has proved its ability to withstand such forces. Furthermore, materials found locally, such as sand, can be used for fill purposes, which means a considerable saving in transport and energy costs.
