Geosynthetics in Siberia
Over 100 TenCate Geotube® containers were used in cleaning up Lake Komsomolsky in the centre of Nizhnevartovsk, a town in Siberia, and woven and non-woven TenCate Polyfelt® was applied for soil reinforcement purposes during the work.
In barely six months 350,000 m3 of sediment were efficiently dewatered without noise or smell nuisance to visitors or the residents of this recreation area.
The solution lay in dredging and dewatering 350,000 m3 (17,000 truckloads) of sediment with the aid of TenCate Geotube® technology. The efficient noiseless operation process and the competitive price differentiate this technology from mechanical systems.
Since the dewatering process had to be carried out on marshy subsoil, this was reinforced and stabilized with TenCate Polyfelt®. These materials are frequently used in retaining walls, for bank protection and in systems for sheet piling, drainage and filtration purposes. The project has been wrapped up so successfully that it serves as a reference project for this region, where a number of lakes still have to be cleaned.
