The TenCate Protective Fabrics facility in Nijverdal is supplying fabrics for the protective clothing of 4,500 electricity employees of Tauron Dystrybucja S.A. Based on TenCate Tecashield® - BV 9120, an inherently heat- and flame-resistant fabric, ‘This is the Mercedes among workwear in Poland.’
Tauron Dystrybucja is engaged in the distribution of electricity. It is a subsidiary of the Tauron Group, one of the largest energy concerns in Poland.
Employees of Tauron Dystrybucja at work
Within Tauron Dystrybucja, the electro-technicians carry out all kinds of activities connected with the operation and maintenance of energy networks, explains Health & Safety Manager Piotr Baszczok. ‘Thus, they are exposed to electric arcs that can result from high-voltage equipment. Some work is performed literally under high voltage. The technicians utilise various electrical and mechanical equipment, which bring risks of their own. Whether they work within the company or on location, they must be clearly visible to their co-workers and others within the working environment. This is hugely important, especially in autumn and winter and at night-time.’
Tauron Dystrybucja wanted to be brought up to speed on every imaginable risk, as well as on the best protection solutions currently available. The specifications for both fabric and clothing were set out in meticulous detail. TenCate was no stranger to the company: earlier TenCate Protective Fabrics had supplied protective clothing for another group of employees. Ewa Gawrysiak is regional sales manager Poland and end-use market manager Eastern Europe. According to her, ‘They have full confidence in us, even as far as service and support are concerned.’
'Some work is performed literally under high voltage'
When it comes to the cooperation with TenCate Protective Fabrics, the response of Piotr Baszczok is positive. According to him, the focus of many suppliers is simply on selling their materials. ‘Ewa Gawrysiak briefed us on every facet so that we could clearly specify all the requirements relating to the protective clothing and workwear. I would describe the cooperation with TenCate as an open, objective and 100% professional partnership.’
‘This is the only model in Poland with hi-vis,’ says Ewa Gawrysiak. ‘It is the Mercedes among workwear for electricians.’ Approximately half of all the fabrics have been delivered to date; the other company units will receive the protective clothing in the course of this year. ‘Tauron Dystrybucja is well aware that it now has the best solution,’ says Ewa Gawrysiak in conclusion, ‘and wants to be kept abreast of new developments and standards. After all, people’s lives are at stake!’
