Winter 2016

From 12 to 16 October, TenCate Outdoor Fabrics participated in the Camping and Caravan Fair 2016 at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. This year, TenCate set out its vision on rental tents.

A real eye-catcher was a spatial chalet-style tent, with wooden planks and a stone plinth. Inside and in front of the tent, an information point provided consumers with advice on tent cloth maintenance, tips, and information on the qualities of TenCate tent cloth. outdoor chalettent

In October the visitors were alerted to the possibilities of outdoor fabrics in the year 2016 by the sight of a chalet tent (bearing in mind the ‘German’ theme) adorned with pouffes in the shape of tree trunks. Interactive screens provided information on the maintenance and cleaning of tent cloth, the different outdoor fabrics and their characteristics. They also displayed numerous possibilities that digital inkjet technology can offer for personalising tents or awnings.

The chalet tent is one of the many ways of distinguishing a tent in terms of both shape and design. ‘It’s wink at the tent rental companies,’ says Marleen Busscher (who works for marketing & communication TenCate Outdoor Fabrics). One of the activities of tour operators is renting out pre-erected tents and mobile homes. It’s usually a case of standard tents (in both version and colour) that form their own district on a large campsite. TenCate Outdoor Fabrics wants to inspire them to innovate, while retaining the renowned quality and durability.

Many a visitor wanted to feel the material too

'We want to show our customers, the tent manufacturers, what’s possible,’ says Rudolf Olde Monnikhof (manager marketing & sales at TenCate Outdoor Fabrics), explaining the concept. ‘Together with us, they can build up a collection of colours and designs to inspire the end customer, the camper. Since we also inspire campers at the most important camping exhibition, this will create further demand and acceptance in the market. We have caught the attention of the whole chain with our innovative presentation. Second, tour operators often have tents in their own company colours to rent, which is why you see boring streets of tents springing up on campsites – another point needing our inspiration. You can thematise rental tents on campsites, and in so doing respond to the wishes of the consumer who is looking for an experience.’

TenCate Outdoor Fabrics wants to make the same kind of innovation impact with outdoor furniture: weatherproof textile for outdoor furniture such as beanbags, lounge cushions and pouffes.

The chalet tent and pouffes are made from TenCate Touring™ (WR-18), a 100% polyester fabric that is strong, colour-fast, durable, mould- and rot-resistant, and water-repellent. Customers of TenCate Outdoor Fabrics often use it for awnings, tunnel tents and canopies.
