Sustainable fabrics

Sustainable fabric is part of the wider global trend towards sustainable design, where a (technical) textile-based material is created and produced with due regard to the environmental impact and social impact it may have throughout its entire lifespan, including its carbon footprint.
The sustainability of protective fabrics, involves many factors in the production processes, such as the source and the renewability of the polymer, fibre, granulate or yarn involved. As well as the way the raw material is turned into a (biobased or synthetic) textile.
All these factors together determine the total carbon footprint of the protective fabric and its relative sustainability. TenCate uses several ecotools to measure the elements involved and publish as transparent as possible.
