The Rabobank 2014 Hockey World Cup is the largest top-class sporting event in our country this year, with 24 hockey teams from 15 countries fighting it out for the world title – 432 top-flight hockey players in 12 men´s teams and 12 women´s teams. The Kyocera Stadium will form the heart of the international tournament. Next to this main stadium the second, temporary hockey stadium was built in less than two months. This GreenFields Stadium – named after the supplier and the type of World Cup synthetic turf which has been installed or is yet to be installed in the two stadiums – can accommodate 5,000 visitors and has seats for 1,000 spectators in covered stands.
The synthetic turf pitches were made by GreenFields using a TenCate fibre that was specially developed for top-level hockey. In an animated video GreenFields presents this new, high-grade synthetic turf system for the World Cup, which has also already been installed at 13 amateur clubs in the Netherlands. Ten of these hockey clubs will play host to the foreign national teams who will train and practise there prior to and during the 2014 Hockey World Cup.
