Loek de Vries, CEO and president of TenCate, was one of the members of the Dutch business delegation that accompanied Queen Beatrix during her state visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman. Along with a select number of other Dutch companies, including Shell, Philips and Thales, he sat at the Round Table with representatives of Abu Dhabi.
Loek de Vries gave a presentation about the company and inquired about how to enter the United Arab Emirates market. TenCate has a factory in Dubai for synthetic turf production. The Middle East is also an attractive market for geotextiles and protective military clothing. 'Our strategy is designed to produce as much as possible instead.'
Present at the meeting were all senior officials of government and industry in Abu Dhabi there. 'Such a foreign visit of Her Majesty offers opportunities to the Dutch trade and industry', said Loek de Vries. 'It gives us access to networks of which we can take great advantage.'
