In a bilateral partnership between the Indian Government, the Dutch Government and a Dutch consortium of companies working under the organisation Dutch Sports Infrastructure, India and the Netherlands launched the Colourfield concept at JLN Stadium in New Delhi.

Colourfield is a multi-functional, sustainable, mini sports arena that combines a social sports education program with a high level innovative multi-sports facility, including a solar lighting centre, rain water harvesting and clean drinking water. The field exemplifies Dutch innovative technology, as well as the best practices that have been customised according to the Indian context.

The Colourfield concept is jointly inaugurated by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports of India, Sports Authority of India, The Netherlands Embassy and Dutch Sports Infrastructure at Jawahar Lal Nehru (JLN) Stadium, New Delhi on 1st December, 2016.

Promoting sports in the country
Owing to India’s ambition of hosting big sporting events in the future, the Indian government endeavours to promote sports in the country, among others, at grassroots level. So with the aim of exchanging knowledge on innovative sports infrastructure, research and coaching, the concept of Colourfield came into fruition with support from the Netherlands Government, Sports Authority of India, Dutch Sports Infrastructure and other stakeholders. This initiative is propelled by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands in India.

GreenFields, the world leader in synthetic field systems, continues to lead the market in product innovation by introducing a safer synthetic playing surface called GreenFields® MX 3 STAR. GreenFields President Guido Vliegen states, “GreenFields® MX 3 STAR feels like real turf and our laboratory testing strongly suggests that it will have a significant impact on decreasing the number of lower leg injuries that players experience on synthetic turf.”

Focus on Sports Safety
It is well known that synthetic turf fields typically provide players higher traction than natural grass. However, NFL statistics show that lower leg injuries are more prevalent on synthetic turf than on natural grass. GreenFields addresses this problem since it has physical characteristics that are closer to natural grass than any other synthetic turf product.
Richard Kent, Professor at the University of Virginia Center for Applied Biomechanics, has conducted independent testing of the new GreenFields MX product and stated, “Greenfields® MX 3 STAR performed much like a natural grass field.”

Real World Testing
This summer, GreenFields has installed test fields with professional organizations around the country for live testing and real world performance feedback. According to third-party test results, the new GreenFields® MX 3 STAR systems also provides shock absorption and energy restitution similar to natural grass. The newly developed infill of GreenFields® MX 3 STAR is made from virgin materials and contains no recycled rubber. “Everything we do is research driven and real world tested,” said Vliegen. “Our R&D group takes the information received in the live test environment to continually enhance our products.”

TenCate Advanced Composites, a leading global composite materials company, celebrate the inaugural opening of their extended facility at Langley Mill (Nottingham), United Kingdom, the European Centre of Excellence for thermoset prepreg systems.

The opening on Wednesday 18 May 2016 follows a period of significant investment for the UK operation of TenCate Advanced Composites, which has seen growth in their TenCate AmberTool® tooling prepreg systems and strong positions in the automotive, Formula 1 and motorsport markets. The capabilities and capacity have been further enhanced by the award of the AS9100 certificate for its standardized quality management system for the aerospace and automotive industry.

A European home of global technology
The technology levels of the Langley Mill plant of TenCate Advanced Composites mirror those of the sister facility in Morgan Hill (California, USA) in the production of market leading composite materials for aerospace, space & satellite and communications markets. This proven technology complements the existing portfolio of products offered from the UK, and will serve both new and existing markets within the EMEA region for industrial and aerospace applications. Together with a doubling of capacity, the extended facility in the United Kingdom now houses a carbon-free manufacturing line, which is dedicated to the manufacture of electrically pure materials.

Frank Meurs, group director of TenCate Advanced Composites states: “The opening of our extended factory in the UK is a significant milestone in the growth of TenCate Advanced Composites. Our commitment to serve the European markets with outstanding customer service and certified quality is now further enhanced with high tech, high spec materials and solutions”.

Global partner for composite materials
Nick Tiffin, director of sales and marketing of TenCate Advanced Composites adds: “Today signifies the next chapter in our penetration into the European aerospace market with thermoset technologies. The combination of our facilities in the UK and North America position TenCate to be a partner of choice for thermoset composite materials. Furthermore, our market leading thermoplastic capabilities enable us to provide total composite material solutions to our customers on a global scale. Combined with excellent customer service, our high spec products have enabled us to gain qualified positions at leading OEMS and their tiers.”

<![CDATA[ TPRC Fokker and TenCate jointly win JEC Innovation Award for smart recycling of thermoplastic composites for aeronautics ]]> http://www.tencate.com/news/2016/tprc-fokker-tencate-win-jec-innovation-award-for-smart-recycling-of-thermoplastic%20composites-for-aeronautics.aspx Wed, 11 May 2016 07:42:09 GMT Advanced Armour tcm:21-43555 TPRC, Fokker and TenCate win JEC Innovation Award aeronautics

The ThermoPlastic composites Research Center (TPRC) in partnership with the Fokker business unit of GKN and TenCate Advanced Composites have jointly won the JEC 2016 Innovation award for Aeronautics with their Carbon / PPS (C/PPS) leading edge access door panel, made utilizing recycled thermoplastic composites.

This success demonstrates the viability of integrating recycled thermoplastic composites into an existing manufacturing process.
The access door panel is made using TenCate Cetex® TC1100 (C/PPS) woven thermoplastic composite material, reclaimed during the production of the main rudder that is then chopped and compression molded, then incorporated into the overall rudder structure, thus forming a closed-loop recycling process. This novel use of reclaimed materials further strengthens the optimization of secondary processes for thermoplastic composites that also include welding, overmoulding and spin-welding inserts. The award was presented during the JEC Americas awards ceremony on Wednesday May 4th 2016 in Atlanta, GA, United States.

Design freedom
Designed by Fokker, the access door panel demonstrates a number of interesting design features. These include molded stiffening ribs, thickness variations and in-molded holes with bosses. The reclaimed and chopped C/PPS semi-preg allows for an increased design freedom, resulting in a lightweight component with a large degree of function integration.

Green composites
A key advantage of thermoplastic composites is their capacity to be recycled, which is increasingly important factor when selecting material solutions in an environmentally aware supply chain. Nick Tiffin, European Director of Sales & Marketing of TenCate Advanced Composites stated: “We are delighted to support this project and applaud the outcome and recognition as it demonstrates the end-of-life possibilities alongside optimising “buy to fly” recycling options for thermoplastic composite materials.”

TPRC researcher Iqbal Rasheed on the collaboration between the partners: “It is a fruitful outcome of the excellent collaborative effort between TPRC and its members. The diverse expertise of the involved partners has led to this innovation, which wouldn’t have been possible without the significant contribution from TenCate Advanced Composites and Fokker. At TPRC we developed the process and designed the mold suitable for the chopped woven C/PPS prepreg, TenCate Cetex®, material. The material used in this process is actual reclaimed material from the production process at Fokker.” ThermoPlastic composites Research Center (TPRC)

GreenFields, a part of TenCate Grass, has installed five FIFA-certified synthetic turf pitches in Tunisia in recent months. These are in Ajim Djerba, Carthage, Korba, Menzil Bourguiba and Kram. The installations of another four pitches are currently finalized. At Étoile Sportive du Sahel from Sousse two pitches are installed at the same time. GreenFields is the only FIFA-preferred producer in this country having FIFA recommended pitches installed locally.

Football in Tunisia is by far the country’s most popular sport. The market is large and uncoordinated and much if not most of the competition is price based. This was reason enough to organize a seminar in consultation with FIFA on numerous aspects of synthetic turf - and in particular those relating to standards and quality awareness.

FIFA Quality Programme
Until recently Tunisia did not have a single FIFA-certified pitch, now there are five. These were installed by Witco Sports, a Tunisian company and contracting partner of GreenFields exclusively for this country. The pitches are part of the FIFA Quality Programme - an internationally recognized standard for quality and reliability relating to equipment, playing surface, technology and service.

The former Dutch football professional, present member of the Vietnamese professional football club Thanh Hóa FC, has become the brand ambassador of GreenFields in Vietnam

Being a brand ambassador, Danny van Bakel will contribute to realising GreenFields’ objective to create awareness in Vietnam of its innovative and high quality synthetic turf football systems.

Danny van Bakel kicked off his career in 2002 with the Dutch first division club Helmond Sport. In 2011 he signed a contract with the Vietnamese club Bình Dương FC. Two years later he joined Đồng Nai FC. The following year he was recruited by Thanh Hóa FC, where the defender has become a fan favourite.
‘The fact that Danny is a professional player who continuously aims to improve his skills and also the quality of Vietnamese football in general, makes him the perfect partner of GreenFields’, says James Bach, Business Development Manager of GreenFields for South East Asia.

Consistency and safety
Most clubs in the V-League, the Vietnamese football competition, have implemented extremely intensive training programmes. Training sessions typically take place on the main field with natural grass. These fields are subjected to overuse resulting in bald patches and an inconsistent surface. ‘I have played on several high quality synthetic turf fields in the Netherlands and I now really appreciate the consistency and safety of these fields. I strongly believe that in the near future a large number of clubs in Vietnam will replace their natural turf fields with high-grade synthetic turf. In my opinion all professional football players in Vietnam should have a chance to play on a field of GreenFields in order for them to realize how a good quality field can contribute to the success of the game. Synthetic turf pitches are perfect in all weather conditions, allowing the fields to be used even more and the youth teams to improve faster.’

TenCate Advanced Composites, a market leading developer and manufacturer of advanced composite materials, will be highlighting during the upcoming JEC World 2016 exhibition in Paris, France, the latest material innovations and composite technologies for space, aerospace, automotive and industrial markets.

The comprehensive range of advanced composite materials from TenCate will be displayed at the JEC World 2016 through a set of unique end-user applications of the materials. Space exhibits include a full scale rocket fairing from Rocket Lab’s all carbon space launch vehicle, built to enable affordable satcom launches into low earth orbit. Aerospace applications include a full sized tail rotor shroud from the SKYe SH09 next generation multi-purpose helicopter of Marenco Swisshelicopter.

Industrial applications
Industrial exhibits include thermoplastic unidirectional tapes for recreational, consumer electronics and energy markets. In addition, TenCate will be launching their TenCate AmberTool® HXR series, a multi-axial format which significantly reduces layup time whilst maintaining the easy handling of single ply tooling prepregs. This solution has been specifically designed for where complexity and speed are required and ultimately reducing the overall tooling costs.

Global expansion
At JEC World 2016 TenCate will also highlight the global expansions in North America and Europe. In the Langley Mill (Nottingham, UK) facility of TenCate Advanced Composites, the newly completed expansion houses an advanced carbon-free production area for production of low dielectric radome materials along with new unidirectional equipment. This expansion in both capability and capacity will allow TenCate to better serve European customers in both aerospace and industrial markets. The Morgan Hill (California, USA) facility of TenCate Advanced Composites is in the process of completing a circa 3,000 m2 expansion of the advanced thermoplastic unitape production facility. This expansion will support additional capacity and capability of the current tape production.
