Oranjewoud and TenCate have at present, 14 May 2008, completed the acquisition of Edel Grass. The Dutch Competition Authority (NMa) has approved the acquisition.
Edel Grass is a leading supplier in the global market for synthetic turf pitches mainly for hockey systems. Edel Grass will in the future concentrate more on high quality synthetic turf sports systems in a broad sense. Forming the basis for this are the complementary knowledge of Edel Grass, Oranjewoud and TenCate relating to components, the integrated production process, safety and durability, as well as construction aspects, installation and maintenance.
The synthetic turf market is characterized by growth, which comes mainly from football. Football makes specific demands of synthetic turf.
Edel Grass aims to further improve the quality and playing characteristics of synthetic turf sports pitches, in particular in relation to football. In anticipation of the periodic testing of all synthetic turf sports pitches by sports associations in the future, playing characteristics and playability should be guaranteed for a longer period.
It is in the interests of the consumer for initiatives to be developed in which within the various links of the value chain (from producer to installer) there is cooperation on research and development with regard to the building of high quality sports systems. Edel Grass has an excellent foundation for this, thanks to this acquisition.
Edel Grass, TenCate and Oranjewoud will use their conbined strength to realize the new field of Heracles Almelo, that will be installed this summer. Synthetic turf will further increase in importance in the new 2008/2009 football season in the Netherlands, because, in addition to Heracles Almelo, FC Volendam will also play on synthetic turf at the highest level in the Netherlands. Playing football on synthetic turf at the top level will make a positive impression on the amateur market and may become an important benchmark for the future quality standards of sports pitches.
