tcm:28-32858 <![CDATA[ Mini synthetic turf pitches also laid in Hockey World Cup Village ]]> 22-5-2014 12:43:38 When the Hockey World Cup gets under way, visitors to the Hockey World Cup Village, located in between the Kyocera Stadium and the second Hockey World Cup stadium, will discover two smaller hockey pitches on the site. These two pitches were laid recently, and include this semi-water-based pitch (20 x 36 metres). In the photo, the team laying the synthetic turf is brushing out the sand that was filled into the playing surface. A smaller, water-based pitch (10 x 15 metres) can be found elsewhere in the village. This means that people who are interested can come and see the basic differences between a sand-filled and a fully water-based pitch — although the smallest pitch will not be kept damp.

The pitches are primarily intended to serve as a fun introduction to hockey, where school children can have a knock-about with a hockey ball. Adult visitors who have caught a bout of hockey fever are also very welcome to try out the mini pitches. No lines have been drawn on the pitch, but the logo of the sponsor has been placed in the centre — a handy addition for anyone who might later want to buy a real Hockey World Cup pitch, as they'll know who to go to right away.

The army recently built a pontoon bridge across the stream that separates the large car park from the two hockey stadiums. The second Hockey World Cup stadium is built on an existing car park, so visitors have to park further away. Via the new pedestrian bridge, spectators can now get straight across to the second Hockey World Cup stadium, and the Kyocera Stadium is located directly behind.

Via the new pedestrian bridge, spectators can now get straight across to the second Hockey World Cup stadium, and the Kyocera Stadium is located directly behind.

The second Hockey World Cup stadium can accommodate 5000 visitors, and includes one thousand covered seats for spectators. The Kyocera Stadium has 15,000 covered seats. Six matches are scheduled to take place each day during the Hockey World Cup, and each of these matches will attract a fresh crowd of spectators — so the temporary bridge is likely to get busy! The Australian and Malaysian teams will be the first competitors to go head to head on the TenCate synthetic grass pitch.

This banner shows the campaign image for TenCate Grass: Dutch team hockey player Eva de Goede in action on TenCate's synthetic turf.

Hudito in Delft is ready for the upcoming Hockey World Cup. The hockey club recently acquired new synthetic turf. It took six men a few days to do the job. Before they laid the turf, the base layers had already been added, including the e-layer which helps with the elasticity and damping of the mat. "The weather conditions were excellent: no rain and not too cold", says John Papakonstantinou, one of the two foremen from J&E Sports, the company that laid the turf. The TenCate synthetic turf was made in the same shade of dark green as the turf on which the matches will later be played. The men's and women's teams from South Korea will start training at Hudito from 20 May. The Korean men's team is currently ranked 7th in the world, while the women's team is in 8th place.

This pitch speeds up the game considerably. The fact that the ball bounces more makes it challenging as well. This enables you to use more techniques, such as 3D hockey", says Elke Bovelander (21), midfielder in the Women's First Division. "The pitch from TenCate also provides perfect support when using your feet to take off. This means you don't get any problems at all with your ankles or your back and it prevents injuries".
