TenCate Advanced Armor and the US ARMY Research Labs (ARL) successfully completed an Active Underbody Blast Protection test series on behalf of the US
Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Additional government offices, including the Tank Automotive Research Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC), the Maneuver Center of Excellence (MCoE) - Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) and the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMOD), were at Maryland’s Aberdeen Proving Grounds in October to witness the lifesaving capabilities of the TenCate ABDS™ Sentinel X™ system on a heavy combat vehicle platform.
This US ARMY Research Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM) effort validates the ability of the TenCate ABDS™ Sentinel X™ active blast defeat system to protect ground vehicle occupants from the devastating effects of insurgent land mines, roadside bombs and improvised explosive devices (IED’s). RDECOM’s critical evaluation process ensures that the TenCate technologies are safe, robust in design, reliability, and performance and ready to protect ground vehicle crews who work in harm’s way.
Mitigating mine blast energy
The TenCate ABDS™ Sentinel X™ blast protection system can save lives and reduce long term debilitating injuries by mitigating the dangerous effects of mine blast energy. ABDS™ Sentinel X™ reduces the launch acceleration of the vehicle, jump height, flight duration and the ensuing fall back to earth. A command-wide CRADA is in place to advantage the vast capabilities and expertise of the US ARMY RDECOM’s engineering centers along with an integrated approach to testing and developing the system’s features, speeding its acceptance and certifying its Technology Readiness Level (TRL).
