TenCate Protective Fabrics USA has pioneered protective fabrics ever since aramids were invented over 40 years ago. Since then, TenCate has remained the undisputed global leader, not only as the largest manufacturer, but also as the most innovative. Over the years we have been on the cutting edge of protective fabric technology through technical expertise in the field of advanced fibers, the latest manufacturing technologies, and in-depth understanding of heat and flame protection. To advance our knowledge and ensure that we offer the best protective fabric options worldwide, we are in close contact with our industry partners. Below are some of the major milestones we have accomplished over the years.

1953 First to weave fabric made of Teflon® fiber.
1963 First to manufacture and sell shock padding for artificial turf fields.
1966 First to manufacture and sell acrylic grass for tennis courts.
1968 Developed and manufactured world's first aramid fabrics.
1968 First to make aramid fabrics for laundry press covers.
1968 First to spin (solution-dyed) aramid yarns for military applications.
1969 First to manufacture and sell acrylic grass for minature golf courses.
1969 First to make protective aramid fabrics for fire service applications.
1970 First to supply aramid fabric for a fire department - Cleveland, OH.
1973 First to make protective aramid fabrics for oil industry applications.
1974 First to supply industrial aramid fabrics for oil exploration - Dowell Contractor.
1982 Began supplying flame resistant, protective fabric for U.S. Forestry Service garments.
1985 Introduced KOMBAT™, our Pbi/Kevlar® turnout gear fabric.
1985 First to develop quilted aramid thermal barrier for fire service applications.
1986 Fairfax County, VA - first major department to adopt KOMBAT™.
1986 Entered commercial airline seat block market - First customer: Continental Airlines.
1992 Expanded into purpose built, state-of-the-art dyeing and finishing facility in Molena, GA - Largest of its kind worldwide.
1992 Developed and introduced ADVANCE™, the most popular fire fighter fabric to date.
1992 Installed innovative land application system for sustainable waste water purification.
1993 First to commercially air-jet spin and sell aramid fiber.
1994 Introduced wet print protective aramid fabrics for military applications.
1997 Developed and introduced the first aramid/FR rayon apparel fabric - COMFORTBLEND™.
1997-2002 Won environmental award for Land Application System from Georgia Waste Water Pollution Control Association (GWWPCA) for 5 years in a row.
1999 First to introduce an outer shell fabric with a 5-year warranty for durability - MILLENIA™.
2003 Developed and introduced TENCATE OASIS™, innovative molten metal, aluminum shedding protective fabric.
2003 Expanded into a new state-of-the-art weaving facility in Zebulon, GA.
2003 Developed and introduced MILLENIA™ LIGHT, the world's lightest and toughest outer shell fabric
2004 Developed and introduced GEMINI™ with Matrix™ Technology, patented, outer shell fabric.
2005 Dyeing and finishing facility wins Georgia Waste Water Pollution Control Association (GWWPCA) Environmental Award for its state-of-the-art  Land Application System.
2005 Developed and introduced ADVANCE ULTRA®, first tri-blend outer shell fabric.
2005 Expanded to 24-hour, 7 days a week manufacturing.

Developed and introduced TECASAFE HI-VIS, flame-resistant high visibility fabric.

2006 Developed and introduced MILLENIA™ XT, the toughest turnout outer shell fabric available.
2006 Developed and introduced TECASAFE™ PLUS, an innovative, inherently flame-resistant industrial protective fabric (70E HRC 2 and NFPA 2112 compliant). 
2007 Developed and introduced QUANTUM3D™, innovative new thermal barrier with patent-pending three-dimensional nonwoven. 
2007 Developed and introduced DEFENDER™ M, patented, FR rayon blend flame-resistant fabric for military combat uniforms.
2007 First to supply flame-resistant fabric to the U.S. Army for infantry uniforms.
2007 United States Marine Corps adopts DEFENDER™ M.
2007 Received commendation from the Unites States Marine Corps for DEFENDER™ M. 
2008 Developed and introduced DEFENDER™ M flame-resistant knits.
2008 Developed and introduced DEFENDER™ M flame-resistant strecth woven fabrics.
