Chocolate Bay, Texas

Product:         Geotube® Marine Structures Technology

Application:   Wetlands Creation

Location:       Chocolate Bay, Texas

Installation:   2005

The Challenge:

This region on the east coast of Texas (near Galveston) would eventually become the site of a new wetlands area.  [Area is highlighted with red oval in photo 1.]  The project involved capturing dredge spoils.

The Solution:

Geotube® units were filled from the dredge and used to build a containment area [photo 2].  The flexibility of the Geotube® containers allowed the units to be curved to fit the planned area [photo 3].  The units were overlapped at the ends to form a secure barrier [photo 4].

The Results:

As the bay area is further filled with dredge spoils, it will be turned into a wetlands area for wildlife.
