Sand Dune Cores

Stopping Beach Erosion and Property Damage

TenCate Geotube® containment technology has proven to be exceptionally valuable for protecting shorelines from erosion, particularly during hurricanes and tropical storms.  The process is simple:  a large tube made of specially engineered textile is filled with sand and buried in the dune.  When rough weather threatens, the tube holds the sand and soil in place, preventing erosion and property damage.

TenCate Geotube® technology uses specially engineered textile containers up to hundreds of feet in length.  While beach and sand in front of the textile unit may be washed out to sea during a storm, any dune or property behind the TenCate Geotube® unit will remain in tact.  In most cases, installation is permanent -- and invisible.  However, when necessary, units can easily be removed.  Simply uncover the unit, open it, and haul it away.

In fact, one of the advantages of TenCate Geotube® geocontainment technology is that the gentle original slope of the dune can be recreated.  This improves the aesthetics of the shoreline and also aids wildlife by improving a natural-seeming habitat -- and blocking lights from shore that can confuse sea turtles and other creatures.

For additional information on the use of TenCate Geotube® geocontainment technology for a Sand Dune Core application, please contact your TenCate Market Manager.  They will be glad to discuss your next containment project.
