A better method of dewatering boiler ash was desired to replace the complicated, inefficient, and costly mechanical dewatering process.
Geotube® dewatering technology was implemented on site to reduce costs, to improve efficiency, and to eliminate mess. The Camden project involved approximately one million gallons of boiler ash at a 2.6% solids dry weight. These materials were dredged and removed.
Previous methods were inefficient and unable to recover all solids. Often the sludge would lay on the bank of the lagoon to dry out. This proved to be messy and much of the sludge ran back into the lagoon.
The Geotube® dewatering technology addressed all of the old issues. After 30 days of dewatering, 37% solids were reached. And the site achieved an annual savings of $60,000. Additionally, the solid materials could be recovered and used for road base applications.
