A water treatment plant needed to remove and dewater alum sludge from its sediment basin and two-acre lagoon.
Geotube® dewatering technology was implemented to address the cleanup needs and to take advantage of the process' simplicity [photo 1]. The utility company was able to use existing personnel, to minimize training, and to limit their capital investment. The water treatment plant purchased a dredge for its own personnel to use during this project [photo 2].
In order to maximize the available on-site space, a 45-ft. circumference Geotube® unit was curved around the sedimentation basin [photo 4]. Then additional containers were placed in a dewatering cell adjacent to the lagoon [photo 5].
The dewatering technology worked well here. The alum sludge at the city's water treatment plant dried to 28% total solids [photo 6].
