The Challenge:

A processing plant needed to empty their titanium dioxide waste lagoons.  And the plant wanted to reclaim and recycle the valuable minerals.

The Solution:

Geotube® dewatering containers (60' circumference x 200' long) were used to dewater 75,000 cubic yards of sludge.  The operation utilized a 215 HP Nomad III cutter head dredge pumping at a rate of 2,000 gpm at 10% solids [photo 2].

The effluent released by the Geotube® units was clean and clear -- and allowed to drain directly back into the waste lagoons [photo 3].  Once the sludge dewatering reached 60% solids, a Geotube® unit was cut open [photo 5].  The contents were removed and the valuable minerals were recovered.

The Results:

The Geotube® units provided the necessary capacity for the plant to continue production.  The Geotube® process allowed a significant amount of minerals to be recaptured and re-used.
