The Challenge:

A processing plant in the Southeast U.S. had reached full capacity in all of its titanium dioxide waste lagoons.  To continue operations, the waste materials had to be processed in a new way.

The Solution:

Geotube® dewatering technology provided the best solution for the plant.  A large number of customized Geotube® containers (sized 60' circumference x 464' long) were installed as an inline process to maintain production and ensure environmental compliance [photo 1].  The units were designed to stack up to seven layers high, and they were nested among each other for stability [photo 2].  The stacking capability maximized capacity within a limited footprint.

The Results:

Dewatered solids averaged 28-35%.  Once the waste lagoon area is filled, it will be capped.
