Dewater 10,500 cubic yards of contaminated sludge from three lagoons at a chemical processing plant in Brazil. Sludge measured BOD at 60,960 mg/l and COD of 143,000 mg/l. The solids were 8.9% in situ.
Three Geotube® dewatering containers (60' circumference x 200' long) were deployed in a dry lagoon area to contain and dewater the sludge. As stone was not available locally, the project managers used wooden pallets as drainage media [photo 3].
The Geotube® dewatering process was extremely efficient [photo 4]. The Geotube® system removed 99.4% of all solids, reduced BOD by 98.1%, and reduced COD by 99.2%.
