The Challenge:

A chemical plant needed to dewater the residuals from their adhesive production process.  The waste material contained inorganic compounds and was too abrasive to run effectively on a belt press.  Plus, the available space for dewatering was also limited.

The Solution:

Geotube® dewatering containers were custom-sized to fit into the available space [photos 1-2].  The waste material was matched to specially formulated polymers to maximize dewatering efficiency.  During the process, a Go-Devil was used to agitate the sludge basin [photo 3].  The sludge was in situ at 12.75%.  As the dewatering occurred, the resulting effluent was recirculated to the equalization basin.

The Results:

After one week, the containers were cut open and 1,065 tons of dewatered solids were removed without disrupting plant operations [photo 5]. 

The chemical plant experienced a 38% cost savings by using Geotube® Dewatering Technology over the belt press method.  And their savings in disposal costs reached 40%.
