Recirculation Waste Removal

Product:         Geotube® Dewatering Technology

Application:   Aquaculture

Location:       Duncan, British Columbia, Canada

Installation:   2003

The Challenge:

This Canadian salmon hatchery needed to remove waste (fish feces and unconverted feed) from a re-circulation settling lagoon [photo 1].

The Solution:

Geotube® dewatering technology was selected for this lagoon cleanup.  The process involved a polymer tank and dosing pump that fed to an unfiltered water sump pump and mixing manifold to deliver wastes from the fish production facility to the Geotube® containers.  Once the filtered effluent drained from the Geotube® containers, the liquid can be deposited to an effluent pond or returned to the facility [photo 2].

The Results:

This lagoon cleanup project was successful for the hatchery.

And this cleanup process was approved as a "Best Management Process" for Aquaculture by the State of North Carolina.
