Benthic Table Waste Cleanup

Product:         Geotube® Dewatering Technology

Application:   Aquaculture

Location:       Salmon Farm

Installation:   2002

The Challenge:

A local salmon farm wanted to create a system to clean up benthic deposits from their ocean environment.

The Solution:

Geotube® dewatering technology played a key role in this cleanup project.  The following process was used for the cleanup.

First, a pump was used to extract the benthic deposits and load the material to a tank on a nearby boat.

Once the tank was filled, the boat approached the shore where it pumped the waste into a Geotube® unit.

The conditioning and flocculation was achieved in the line between the boat and the dewatering unit.

The Results:

The benthic deposit materials were treated in two dewatering tests:  with and without the use of flocculants.  The results were very definitive.

Without Flocculants -- Result was unsatisfactory and the dewatering time was too slow [photo 1].

With Flocculants -- Result was highly satisfactory in terms of water clarity and nutrients removal [photo 2].  This method's dewatering time was very fast.
