Product: Geotube® Dewatering Technology
Location: New Bern, North Carolina
A hog farm lagoon had reached full capacity and was in need of cleanout. Farm waste management methods must address the high costs associated with (1) disposing and transporting the waste, or (2) creating additional waste lagoons.
Geotube® dewatering technology was used as a simple, effective way of managing the lagoon cleanout. The waste was pumped from the lagoon to a Geotube® unit [photo 3].
Solids were at 4% when pumped from the lagoon. Within the Geotube® container, the solids dewatered to over 25%. The container retained 93% of solids, plus 78% of nitrogen and 65% of phosphorous. The unfiltered discharge was clean enough to enter the lagoon [photo 4].
The cost for dewatering was less than a 1/2 cent per gallon of the pumped sludge.
