Our aerospace-grade aluminium honeycomb core is designed for use in sandwich structures to produce highly engineered structural components. In particular, the material offers the designer high strength-to-weight properties at relatively low cost. This makes it particularly suitable as a shear-carrying structure in adhesively bonded sandwich panel assemblies.
TenCate Advanced Composites’ Nomex® aerospace (ANA) grade honeycomb core is manufactured from Nomex® paper sheets, coated and bonded together with a phenolic resin. It also features high strength-to-weight ratios. This makes it particularly suitable as a core material for the production of sandwich structures requiring good FST performance using high-performance, fibre-reinforced composites as the facing material.
TenCate also has formable Flex-Core® honeycomb core with unique cell configurations, permitting small radii of curvature without deformation of the cell walls or loss of mechanical properties. Prime application candidates for Flex-Core® include highly contoured sandwich panels, such as leading edges and flaps, nacelles, fairings, doors and access covers, and other parabolic, spherical and cylindrical shapes. Duplicate die model and control tooling for aerospace use are also examples of Flex-Core® applications. As with standard aluminium honeycomb, Flex-Core® provides controlled crush characteristics without rebound. Thus, curved energy absorption units become feasible and economical.
